nesting
raw material for the paper nest is wood fibers. The wasps may be torn off with their mandibles fibers of thin branches, and chew it and mix with saliva to a pulp.
On the animal is not our view, but a Gallic (Or French) field wasp, Polistes dominulus . I caught a few days ago (May 12) when she bit off material from an old branch just a few yards from our Queen. The species P. dominulus is easy to spot: it is the only native wasp also with the upper side orange-colored probe flagella.

finally sunny
sun! As life comes in the wasp and as the photographer says that he finally has decent light. So let's make even a passport photo. Smile please ...
And so we have the proof that we are dealing with a heath elicit factual field wasp, Polistes or nimpha , As it is called scientific and poetic. The five or six field wasp species found in Austria (in Germany there are only four), can very well distinguish the female mind. Thus, the combination speaks from the top side over the entire length of blackened antennas, yellow cheeks, and completely dark mandibles (upper jaw) is unique for this species
wasp love usually quite dry, warm and sunny. Accordingly, our queen's nest in the blazing sun has mounted, protected from rain fairly reasonable by the projecting roof. Slams the sun something too hard on the brood, the mother provides for even cooling. She stands on the honeycomb and fanning their wings in the air cells.
